Course Overview:

This course, ending in an exhibition/showcase, is designed for creatives of any artform who wish to develop new climate engaged work in the inspiring company of others. Participants will explore various stages of artistic creation, from inspiration and ideation to execution, experimentation and refinement. Through practical exercises, case studies, and personalized feedback, participants will cultivate their unique artistic project, enhance their knowledge and technical skills, and gain confidence in navigating the complexities of the creative journey. Whether you're a beginner looking to establish a solid foundation or an experienced creative seeking like-minded people to refine your process, this course offers a structured framework to elevate your artwork to new heights.

Course Objectives:

  1. Journey through a Creative Process: Explore the stages of artistic creation and develop a personalised approach to art-making.

  2. Harness Inspiration: Learn techniques to find and cultivate sources of inspiration for your artwork.

  3. Develop climate thinking: Explore some of the questions, challenges and solutions that come with being creative in response to the climate and ecological emergencies

  4. Refine Experimentation and Technical Skills: Enhance proficiency in art techniques and mediums through guided practice and experimentation.

  5. Receive Constructive Feedback: Participate in critique sessions to receive valuable feedback and insights on your artwork.

  6. Document and Reflect: Develop habits for documenting progress and reflecting on your artistic journey for continuous growth.

  7. Share your new work with new people: Showcase your work, or work in progress, engaging a new audience.

Course times: Tuesdays, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Course dates: 10 weeks (1 module a week) - dates to be confirmed

Price Range: £300 - £400

Enrolment: Open to creative people of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Prerequisites: None, but a passion for creativity and environmental sustainability is encouraged.

Course Structure:

Week 1: Introduction to Your Artistic Journey

  • Overview of the course objectives and expectations

  • Share examples of your practice, current questions and interests

Week 2-4: Finding Inspiration

  • Explore climate issues that interest you

  • Gather examples, collect inspiration

  • Share techniques for sparking creativity and discovering sources of inspiration

  • Exercises to explore different methods of generating ideas and concepts

  • Case studies of artists

Week 5-7: Design and Carry Out Creative Experiments

  • Try out and test materials, ideas, approaches

  • Invited guests to explore specific themes

  • Peer critique sessions to receive constructive feedback on works-in-progress

Week 8-9: Develop your Concepts

  • Refining initial ideas into coherent concepts and themes

  • Individual consultations with the instructor for personalized guidance

Week 10: Reflecting and Presenting Your Artwork

  • Reflective exercises on personal artistic growth throughout the course

  • Preparation and presentation of a final artwork, showcasing development and creativity

  • Invited private audience

  • Biography: Chloe Uden is an influential artist and environmental advocate known for her innovative approach to integrating creativity with sustainability. She has dedicated her career to exploring the intersection of art, renewable energy, and community engagement. With a background in both the arts and renewables, Chloe has successfully spearheaded numerous projects that highlight the potential of creative solutions to address climate change.

    As a co-founder of The Art and Energy Collective, Chloe has played a pivotal role in developing and promoting solar art installations, which combine solar technology with artistic design to create functional and aesthetically pleasing renewable energy sources. Her work aims to inspire people to think differently about energy production and to see the beauty and potential in sustainable practices.

    The Art and Energy Collective specialises in designing mass-participation artworks that seek inspiration from nature and help people engage with energy systems that affect their lives. Their ‘Moths to Flame’ project won The Sustainability First People’s Choice Art Prize and involved over 58,000 people in making an artwork for COP26 The UN Conference on Climate Change. Their current artwork The Mossy Carpet seeks to celebrate the tiny actions that people take to make a better world and explore ‘How to Bury the Giant’ using carbon sequestration and nature positive action.

    Chloe Uden is also known for her engaging workshops and public speaking engagements, where she shares her passion for combining art with environmental activism. Through her efforts, she has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of renewable energy and the role of creativity in solving environmental challenges. Her innovative projects and community-driven approach continue to inspire individuals and organisations to embrace sustainability and creativity in their daily lives.
