Art and Energy’s mossy adventures on Dartmoor

The Art and Energy team have recently spent two wonderful days at Challacombe Farm on Dartmoor, we really enjoyed visiting this special place at the heart of Dartmoor National Park. The farm is managed by Naomi & Mark who care for their animals whilst conserving and enhancing the wildlife, landscape and archaeology of the land.

We visited to learn more about our local mosses, bogs and peatland, we hope our next project will have a mossy theme to engage people with the climate emergency.

Why moss? Mosses date back 450 million years, and have survived and thrived through a range of drastic climate changes. We know peatlands are the largest natural terrestrial carbon store, they store more carbon than all other vegetation types in the world combined.

We loved the colours of the mosses, the squelch of the bog, our doggy tour guide Elf, the fresh Dartmoor air and the warm welcome in the farmhouse kitchen - thank you Naomi & Mark.

More details on our moss themed ideas and activities coming soon!
