Bog Day 2024: Celebrating the brilliance of bogs

Art and Energy invite you to celebrate the brilliance of bogs with us on Bog Day - Sunday 28th July 2024.

We’ve recorded a short film to watch at your leisure to find out just a little about how important our bogs and peatlands really are.

First you’ll hear Art and Energy’s Naomi Wright sharing her love of mosses, not just on bogs across Dartmoor but on walls and in the cracks of pavements, once you start looking, mosses can be found in so many places.

Then we share our new audio book A Mossy Story, written and performed by actor and author Micha Colombo, take a moment and listen to a story of Jay and his Nana who meet Tina the magnificent Tardigrade as they daydream deep into the miniature magical world of mosses, seeking inspiration for how to defeat the carbon giant.

If you’d like to take a moment and enjoy some creativity inspired by mosses then find out more about joining in with our mass participation artwork The Mossy Carpet.

We hope our Bog Day film will inspire you to love peatlands as much as we do, if you’d like to learn more then you’ll find resources for all ages on the Bog Day website including colouring sheets and quizzes and a selection of films - we’ve included a selection below.

With thanks to our funders for supporting our work on the bogs and peatlands of Dartmoor. We’ve been working with schools, community groups, land owners, farmers, commoners and interest groups to inspire a love of mosses and moorlands and planting bio-original sphagnum moss to restore the moor.

Thanks for support from Devon Environment Foundation, Foundation for Common Land, IUCN UK Peatland Programme and Dartmoor FiPL grant scheme, Dartmoor National Park.
