Art and Energy & The Mossy Carpet at Glastonbury

Our Glastonbury team: (left to right) Matilda, Chloe, Naomi, Amy, Sabrina, Jenny.

This summer, Art and Energy were invited to exhibit The Mossy Carpet on the Green Futures Field at Glastonbury Festival. The Green Futures Field keeps to Glastonbury’s original principles of love, sharing and creativity, it’s the place were each year the most inspiring green ideas are on show.

Our pitch was a round-house next to the Mandala Stage, we filled the walls with The Mossy Carpet and created a green-carpet experience with the artwork for visitors to walk on. Hanging in the central column of the round-house were a series of moss filled terrariums, made from recycled plastic beer kegs from a local scrapstore. The Tardigrade Telephone was mounted on an upcycled telephone table decorated with moss inspired pompoms and embroidery, visitors could leave a message sharing their tiny actions for a brighter, greener future.

A short tour of The Mossy Carpet round-house at Glastonbury

Our round-house was open 11am - 5pm each day offering the chance to sit and take a mindful moment, chat to our team, learn more about mosses and make moss inspired pompoms and textile pieces to add to The Mossy Carpet artwork.

Our messages to visitors included the importance of mosses and peatlands and sharing the work to restore moorland habitats undertaken by our sponsors - Dartmoor National Park FIPL project, IUCN UK Peatland Programme and South West Peatland Partnership.

Glastonbury was a fabulous opportunity to showcase The Mossy Carpet, made by thousands of people thanks to support from our Crowdfunder campaign. The Festival allowed us to reach so many people from all ages and backgrounds, we hope they will take The Mossy Carpet back to their communities and encourage others to get involved so we can grow the artwork together.
