Dawn Breaks at mudac’s Solar Biennale, Switzerland
Chloe with Dawn Breaks at Soleil.s at mudac
Art and Energy’s Chloe Uden travelled all the way to Lausanne, Switzerland to view her solar artwork Dawn Breaks at the opening event of Soleil.s at mudac (Musée cantonal de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains).
Dawn Breaks forms part of the Soeil.s Solar Biennale 2 exhibition running from the spring equinox to the autumn equinox and will then form part of the museum’s permanent collection.
Soleil·s features installations, artefacts, films, innovative materials, and immersive spaces, including original creations by a wide range of artists and designers. There will also be events, parties and activities to explore the many facets of the sun, a universal symbol and source of life.
Dawn Breaks is a solar artwork, created by Chloe Uden and The Art and Energy Collective in 2019, made with glass, EVA glue, silicon solar cells, tabbing wire, electrical components. It forms part of a series of solar artworks and other works can be purchased on our website.
Launched in 2022 in the Netherlands by designers Pauline van Dongen and Marjan van Aubel, the Solar Biennale provides a platform for reflection on the challenges of solar energy. For this second edition, mudac will broaden the theme by bringing together designers, curators, activists, and researchers to explore expanded perspectives on how to approach ecological transition. Far from limiting itself to a single, socially constructed vision, Soleil·s will address the symbolic, political, practical, and aesthetic dimensions of our relations to that star.
