Home Sweet Home workshops

Art and Energy’s monthly Home Sweet Home night light workshops have been a great success!

Thanks to funding from Devon Communities Together, we delivered monthly sessions between October 2022 and February 2023 in partnership with Positive Light Projects in Exeter.

Four of the five sessions were offered free of charge to members of the public to come along and get creative. The fifth session was offered free of charge to The Pelican Project - an Exeter based community group for young people with learning-disabilities.

The workshops were open to all and with the cold winter and the energy crisis at the forefront of our minds, it was important to offer everyone a friendly warm space with a hot drink and the chance to chat to like minded friendly folk.

Participants came along to design, build and decorate their very own solar house night light - each kit contains a plywood house and solar light. Once constructed, the house can be painted and decorated using a wide range of upcycled materials including magazines, newspapers, material offcuts and other recycled items.

Participants were able to decorate both the inside and outside of their house reflecting their own imagination and personalities. During the day the solar panel charges the light which then at night illuminates the inside of the house showing off the various creative designs!

In addition to the creative side of these free workshops, we also invited a local energy advisor from the award winning Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) to talk to participants about energy use in their homes and to share details about how they could reduce carbon emissions and energy bills while also keeping warm.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to take part in our workshops and thanks to Positive Light Projects for providing the venue.

A huge thanks to Devon Communities Together for enabling these sessions to take place by supporting Art and Energy, The Pelican Project and Positive Light Projects with their funding.
