Storytelling Shadow Puppets

Art and Energy’s recent shadow puppet workshop was a tremendous success! We delivered a storytelling shadow puppet session as part of the WonderZoo Storyteller Pilot Festival in Plymouth.

The workshop was designed to be part of our engagement work on the Plymouth Mobility Hubs project (supported by Plymouth City Council) and to start conversations about our new project idea - In the Shadow of a Giant. Carbon in the atmosphere looms large, the giant of our time… it casts a shadow over our lives, but together we can be ready for the challenge!

Participants at the shadow puppet workshop were invited to create their own shadow puppets and use them to tell their own stories, share eco-tips and talk about their aspirations for the future. We encouraged them to become carbon detectives, to cast their own shadows and to playfully celebrate what it takes to be Climate Champions.

We turned small gestures into grand actions and together we explored, investigated and imagined how Plymouth can adapt to beat the Climate Change Giant. We talked about low carbon journeys, alternative forms of transport and how we can travel around the city in a more environmentally friendly way.

We brought along a Beryl Bike and a cargo bike to display - by March 2023 the Plymouth Mobility Hubs project will provide 500 Beryl Bikes for Plymouth residents to use plus 400 electric vehicle charge points across the city to help us make low carbon journeys everyday.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day to make their shadow puppets and to tell their stories.
