Positive energy from women working in the Renewables Sector
…with The Mossy Carpet and Tardigrades
We are sometimes asked to a few events and festivals to help people get creative about energy and our environment. A recent example of such an event was for Regen, an organisation which provides independent, evidence-led advice in support of transforming the UK’s energy system to a net zero future. Regen's Women in Renewable Energy (ReWIRE) network were holding a gathering and wanted to offer an imaginative way to engage and develop ideas. Since 2014 Regen have led the way connecting and inspiring women with tools and support they need to succeed in one of the world’s fasted growing industries. They rarely work alongside tardigrades (!)
Re-WIRE network, April 2025. Not many meetings have the pleasure of an orange tardigrade telephone box to keep them company.
This group of women were all working in off-shore wind farms which have a massive ambition to reduce carbon based power provision over the next 10 years.
Burgess Salmon, a large law firm with an ethical and environmental mission, hosted this event in Bristol, and provided quality space and an ambience to suit a crowd of women full of positive energy.
It takes effort to present an imaginative set for change. We drove up with a secondhand orange telephone box, dismantled in the back, along with rolls of wool and pom-pom rich mossy carpet, scissors, needles and signs. We heaved the Telephone box parts up in a lift and then re-constructed it on site. Inside a disco ball (wired up by Jenny Ayrton) produced the kitch and sparkle to inspire a message to be left on the tardigrade phone. A message that described the important moments in the women’s lives that got them to this position. A message spoken to a Tardigrade, the microscopic and the most resilient of creatures living in wet moss, that have survived millions of years of catastrophic changes.
Panels were held in which the women described their day to day work, their ambitions, their responsibilities inside and outside their roles and how things could be improved. It felt like their work was becoming even more pivotal in a world which is changing so fast.
Chloe Uden speaking to the Re-WIRE network by the Tardigrade telephone box and Mossy Carpet.
The Mossy carpet offered a way to hold conversations about the journey to find solutions. While you make, you play, letting your mind find new paths and new connections. We introduced this feminine corporate world to this creative side and laughed alongside them as they found their way.
Cheers to women who make a difference, and keep ambition to create a greener, better future for us all.
