Art and Energy’s Jenny leading the way for women in technology and engineering

Art and Energy’s Jenny Ayrton is the creative force behind the ‘techy magic’ of our work. She uses her knowledge and expertise to add illumination to our solar artworks, create our Tardigrade Telephones and to incorporate engaging audio elements into our artworks.

Jenny loves to learn and always wants to know more about how technology works so she’s enrolled at City College Plymouth for a one day a week HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering!

You can read more about her journey through transistor bias curves, matrices, power factors and torque equations to deepen her understanding and create more Art with Energy that resonates with others and her hopes to inspire the next generation of young women and girls.

Jenny is just one of three women in a cohort of 25 on her HNC course, it’s important to note these statistics because we know women are under represented across the board in the engineering sector. Data from WISE for September 2023 tells us female employees account for just 10.4% of the total workforce of Engineering Professionals (reference).

Next week Jenny and Art and Energy’s Chloe Uden will join Regen for their Empowering change event, celebrating the incredible women shaping the future of clean energy. The event in Bristol will bring together women working across all aspects of the offshore energy sector, an important and growing industry which needs greater representation particularly in achieving gender balance.

Read more about Regen’s event on Tuesday 2nd April - Empowering change: Women leading the future of offshore clean energy.

Art and Energy will share our mass participation artwork The Mossy Carpet on the day and encourage conversations over creativity. Jenny will be on hand with the Tardigrade Telephones she has developed using her technology skills and expertise and asking these inspiring women to record their messages of hope and action for a brighter greener future.
